Blizzard = Perfect Time to Snow Shoe. A giant size thanks to mother nature and delivering the arctic vortex to the midwest. Fifth snowiest winter ever for Chicago. Varied terrain and beautiful views make Maple Lake an amazing local destination to go snow shoeing. Since our crew varied in age from 5 to 46 so(…)
Not many folks know, but Lemont has tremendous cross country skiing opportunities. The best part is they range from absolute beginner to advanced skater. If you’ve never skied and would like to learn or just ski on ski-only trails then Camp Sagawau is your best bet. If you’re ready for a bit more then head(…)
I had no idea what an Arctic Vortex was until this past week. I thought they were just called cold fronts, well this vortex was awesome. It brought with it -19 F degrees and about 15″ of snow. Perfect to get out and snow shoe.
Out and about with the dudes on shoes. H and I have MSR Denali’s and TRU had those Big Foot shoes. We covered about 2 miles, it was pretty awesome. I think H might need adult shoes soon, where does the time go? We hit the Arboretum an went from the library to Sterling Pond(…)

Another great day on the Des Plaines River in Lemont ! On this trip we made a new friend, Rich. We’re always happy to meet fellow outdoors enthusiasts, especially when they’re from Lemont ! We put in at a familiar spot, we even spent a little time afterwards doing some garbage clean-up and trimming back(…)
Finally on the water and finding some solitude kayaking in Illinois ! Great day on the water as always. The river is a bit low but not as bad as last year though we really couldn’t get into the basin. Wind out of the east so we paddle up stream with a head wind which(…)
The north extension of the Veterans Highway Trail finally opened ! This section of trail extends from International Parkway and then heads south to the Centennial Trail. Ideally this is where the trail would head east and then south through Lemont’s Downtown. For now, that doesn’t exist, but Lemont Outdoors is going to help to(…)
They said it couldn’t be done but we did it ! H+T climbed up a mountain, after we drove a good portion… It doesn’t matter to me or them because we had a great time and they know they’ve been to to the (almost) top of the highest point in Vermont.
Another trip to the Palos Triangle. This time I met Tom for his first ever single track. He did pretty well, said it was eye-opening and fun. I mixed it up and we hit the yellow trail east – on Bull Whip over to Cemetery Ridge. I had the GoPro on and grabbed some footage.(…)
